Griffith Corp eyes two more blogazines

Chairman Will Griffith
LOS ANGELES — Will Griffith is known for going after a good thing when he sees it, but the Chairman of The Griffith Corporation, who built the company on Internet broadcasting, is becoming partial to online publishing and is making a move to expand his family of “blogazines”.
With the recent acquisition of ArtChix Magazine and the launch of The Bailey Monthly. Griffith reportedly has made an offer to acquire a stake in two new online magazines, both struggling startups.
A bid would suggest that the online media chief is confident about a recovery in the Internet media market, which has struggled during the economic downturn.
The targets are Xaminer Magazine, a gossip blog, and Jurist Today, a blog featuring legal news. Both blogazines are powered by tumblr.
The recent surge in news-oriented blogs popping up through tumblr also shows promise for the blog service.
“We were not even oriented with tumblr before we we were introduced by ArtChix Magazine”, says Brian Colson, a VP at Griffith Corp and Will Griffith’s right hand man, “it is one of the most impressive startups we’ve witnessed. The possibilities through tumblr are limitless and allow a great deal of freedom for their customers. We are thrilled to be using tumblr”.
Colson said Griffith was looking closely at the two blogs over the weekend, and that Colson submitted an offer to both for a potential takeover.
“We have already stated that expansion is a primary goal”, said Colson, “The fact that these two blogs really have no Internet presence yet allows us to come in and say ‘hey, we like where you’re going but if you ride with us we’ll get you there faster’. It is a wonderful opportunity for everyone to do what they love to do and become a part of our family in the process”.
Details of negotiations have not been disclosed, but Colson is the ‘point man’, the ‘go-to-guy’ on this one. He says these two blogs would compliment what the Griffith Media Center wants to be and where it wants to go.
